Last night we all gathered at Shauna's for delicious food and a great discussion of The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I wanted to show you the new paperback cover with a shot from the upcoming movie. I really enjoyed discussing this book and I think every one liked the book. At least no one said they hated it. (I am really tempted not to use any punctuation in this post)
Of course the food was delicious as always. Shauna set a beautiful table and her signature mood lighting didn't allow the best pictures from my sad little camera. So I am sorry that the photos are a little fuzzy. Robyn you will have to take them next time.
I absolutely LOVED the soup. Now Shauna I know you said you don't have an "exact recipe" for the soup but you need to try and give us a recipe -- it was soooooo good. Thanks Amber for the nice touch with the ladle.

I should have gotten a shot of the cake on a plate with the wonderful buttermilk syrup on top. It was superb.And now for everyones favorite part...

I didn't realize that The Road was going to be a movie. I'm not sure what would be worse--imagining some of those scenes or actually seeing them.
One topic I wanted to bring up, but forgot, was that of linguistics. One time, the father told his son to "stay in the neighborhood," and the son asked, "What's a neighborhood?" It's amazing how quickly language can evolve!
I'm not very far into the next book, but love it so far! I feel like every page has at least one story in and of itself. It is serious and yet oh so funny, too.

I just heard Bethany had her baby on Sunday and all went well. Yeah for Bethany and baby!
Thanks to everyone that came on Thursday. It's always nice to have everyone come and hang out. I really enjoyed the discussion and felt really very satisfied. After I saw the cover of the new book I realized that I hadn't considered the way they looked. Hmmm.
